As Deputy Director for Accreditation and School Improvement, Jim guides schools through the NEASC Accreditation process and partners with them to create cultures of innovation and school improvement.

Jim joined the NEASC staff in 2013 after working in independent schools for 30 years. He began his career in education as a faculty member then dean at The Taft School in Connecticut before transitioning to Rye Country Day School in New York. At RCDS he and three colleagues founded the ACTION program, “an academic enrichment program at the Rye Country Day School for highly motivated public school students entering seventh, eighth, or ninth grade.” Jim then served as head of school at Vermont Academy for 16 years. Jim has a bachelor's in history from Yale University and earned his Master of Education in Educational Administration from Stanford University. Prior to joining the NEASC staff, he served as a member of the Commission on Independent Schools, chaired the Commission, served as a member of the NEASC Board of Trustees, and served as president of the board before transitioning to his role as Deputy Director.

Jim believes that NEASC catalyzes change and innovation in schools. His goal is to help schools believe in their own capacity for growth and development and support them as they continue to move ever forward.
