Jim’s connection with NEASC began when he was head of school at Vermont Academy — a position he held for 16 years. In this capacity, he concurrently served on the NEASC Commission for Independent Schools (including a term as the chair) and then served as President of the NEASC board for one term. Jim’s career in education includes five years at The Taft School followed by nine years at Rye Country Day School and then onto Vermont Academy. At RCDS, he and two colleagues founded the ACTION Program which “seeks to expand the academic and intellectual horizons of bright, motivated, and responsible students from local communities that may not have the resources available to provide such summer programs”.
He is a graduate of Taft, Yale University undergrad and Stanford University grad. It’s worth noting that he also “graduated” elementary school from l’École Active Bilingue in Paris where his family lived for five years. He serves on the board of the Rowland Foundation which “provides Vermont secondary school educators with a unique professional development and leadership opportunity and the resources to positively affect student achievement and the culture and climate of their respective schools”.
