Become Accredited

Get started!

Recognition as a Candidate for Accreditation is the first step toward membership in and accreditation by the New England Association of Schools and Colleges; however, achieving Candidacy does not guarantee eventual accreditation. The status of "Candidate" indicates that an institution has achieved initial recognition and is progressing toward accreditation, but should not be confused with membership. Only schools which have demonstrated, through their respective Commission's evaluation processes, that they meet established Standards are granted Accreditation and thus considered members.

Please refer to the appropriate Commission for details on submitting an Application for Candidacy.

Independent Schools

The Commission on Independent Schools (CIS) accredits a wide range of private schools in the six states of New England including traditional boarding and day preparatory schools, private elementary schools, schools serving students with special needs, and religiously affiliated schools of many faiths.

International Schools

The Commission on International Education (CIE) accredits American and international schools located abroad, online education academies and providers, and National Schools with embedded international programs.

Public Schools

The Commission on Public Schools (CPS) accredits and supports public elementary, middle, and high schools, and career and technical schools/centers throughout New England.
