NEASC Welcomes 'The Next Generation'
The chair of the 125th Committee, Gregory Prince, Hampshire College President Emeritus reports that a comprehensive and coordinated effort is under way to provide an array of activities, through the concluding meeting of December 2011. Particular emphasis has been placed on assuring that student voices will be included. Over 60 member institutions have expressed interest to date. The committee invites you to learn more about involving students in the anniversary year by contacting 125@neasc.org.
A number of student reflections on the purpose of education are found on the Student Activities webpage. These include student involvement from Massachusetts’ The Brimmer & May School, St. Sebastian’s School and Endicott College. Global links will feature 7th graders from Tokyo International School, middle school students from Westwood School (Botswana) and a senior project conducted at Western Academy of Beijing.
Student forums continue and member institutions are invited to consider how they may participate, whether locally or electronically. Forums in 2010 include: Revere High School (April 9, Revere, MA), Yale University (Ulysses S. Grant Foundation) symposium developed by undergraduates with New Haven middle/high school students (summer 2010). Anniversary symposia to mark NEASC’s 1885 gathering of October 16 will occur at Harvard University (Fri. Oct. 15, 2010) and The Boston Latin School (Sat. Oct. 16, 2010).
We invite your students to engage in discussing the purposes of education and to compare their perspectives with others at all grade levels and in other nations, so that we can reflect on their role as NEASC’s ‘the next generation.’
