Student Convocation – East Haven High School

Student Convocation

East Haven High School, CT, March 24, 2009

The students from East Haven High School, Connecticut, guided by principal Vanessa Reale, hosted the first gathering of students for the 'Listening to Student Voices' initiative. Regional representatives attended from institutions of higher education and public and private schools. Hisar School in Istanbul, Turkey, joined the discussions by video conferencing.

With Gregory Prince, 125th Committee Chair and President Emeritus of Hampshire College, providing structure that encouraged student participation, the attendees considered such questions as: “What should education do for you? and…for your community and country?;”  “What is the most significant problem you will inherit as an older adult?;” and “What would you urge the president or prime minister of your country do for education?”

Participants expressed approval of the lively discussion and anticipation for continuing the on-going discourse at future convocations.
